Cervical Cancer: A Serious Global Issue

According to an analysis by the United Nations, cervical cancer remains a major public health issue, with one woman dying from this disease every two minutes. Each year, approximately 660,000 women are diagnosed with this illness, and 350,000 lose their lives because of it.

Jeanette, a woman from an affected community, shared her heartbreaking story, saying: "I felt betrayed by my own body" after her diagnosis. Cervical cancer is the fourth most common form of cancer in women, and despite the fact that the disease is preventable and treatable, access to screening and vaccination remains unequal, particularly in sub-Saharan regions and Southeast Asia.

The World Health Organization recommends HPV vaccination for all girls aged between 9 and 14 years, as well as regular medical check-ups starting from the age of 30. The global strategy initiated in 2020 aims to eliminate cervical cancer and includes clear targets for 2030, such as vaccinating 90% of girls by the age of 15 and ensuring treatment for 70% of diagnosed women.
