Devastating Fire Claims 40 Lives in Swiss Ski Resort
Tragic Scene in Switzerland
A devastating fire at a bar in a Swiss ski resort has resulted in the deaths of 40 individuals on New Year's Eve. Authorities suggest that the blaze may have been caused by fireworks placed on champagne bottles that were too close to the ceiling.
"Everything indicates that the fire started due to these fireworks, which were placed on champagne bottles moved too close to the ceiling," stated Beatrice Pilloud, the Attorney General of the Valais canton, during a press conference.
In the aftermath of the fire, 119 people have been injured, many of whom are in critical condition. Of the injured, 113 have been identified, including 71 Swiss citizens, 14 French, 11 Italians, and four Serbs.
Among the victims is French footballer Tahirys Dos Santos, who suffered severe burns and was urgently transported to Germany for treatment.
The tragic event occurred at Le Constellation, a bar that had a capacity of 300 people. An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact circumstances of the incident, including whether the fire safety measures were compliant with regulations.
"What concerns us is that many people are still in serious condition and fighting for their lives," noted Mathias Reynard, the president of the Valais region. A national mourning ceremony is scheduled to take place on January 9 in Crans-Montana.
The families of the victims have gathered in front of the bar, leaving flowers and heartfelt messages in memory of those lost. Offers of support and the organization of a conference for the families of the missing individuals are in progress.
