Tragic Accident on a Highway in Nigeria

The entire sporting community is in mourning after the driver of a car transporting British boxer Anthony Joshua has been charged with reckless driving. The accident occurred on December 29, 2025, resulting in the deaths of two of the boxer’s friends. Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, aged 46, was driving the Lexus SUV on a busy highway in Ogun, Nigeria, when he collided with a stationary truck.

According to statements from the police spokesperson, Kayode has been released on bail set at 5 million naira (approximately $3,480), requiring two guarantors. He was held in police custody from the moment he was discharged from the hospital on Thursday.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the vehicle was speeding and that a tire exploded before the impact. Following the accident, Ayodele and Ghami were pronounced dead at the scene, while Joshua and Kayode sustained only minor injuries.

After his discharge, Joshua and his mother visited the morgue where the bodies of his friends were being prepared for repatriation. It appears that their remains may be sent to the United Kingdom.

Joshua's current location remains unknown.
