Shocking Scenes from Southern Ukraine

An airstrike on a hotel in the village of Khorly, under Russian control, resulted in the deaths of at least 24 individuals, including a child. The Russian-appointed governor of the Kherson region, Vladimir Saldo, stated that three Ukrainian drones targeted New Year celebrations, which he described as a "deliberate attack" on civilians.

Ukrainian forces, however, claim they specifically aimed at military locations and Russian energy infrastructure. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Russia launched over 200 attack drones against Ukraine, targeting energy infrastructure in seven regions. Additional restrictions were imposed on two airports in Moscow on New Year's Day.

Diplomacy and Negotiations

Rustem Umerov, Ukraine's chief negotiator in U.S.-facilitated peace talks, met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to discuss the negotiation process and next steps, particularly humanitarian issues. Zelenskyy announced he would not accept a "weak" peace agreement that would prolong the conflict, adding that a peace deal is nearing completion, with 90% of the details already agreed upon.
