Four Palestinian Protesters Continue Hunger Strike in UK Prisons
Members of Palestine Action Persist with Hunger Strike
For over 50 days, four members of Palestine Action, designated as a terrorist organization in the United Kingdom, have been on hunger strike in various prisons across the country. Four other members have ended their hunger strike, with some requiring hospitalization.
The members of Palestine Action are detained after being accused of involvement in disruptions at the UK subsidiary of the Israeli group Elbit Systems. They deny the charges, which include theft and violent disturbance.
The hunger strike has five essential demands: bail release, the right to a fair trial, an end to the censorship of their communications, declassification of Palestine Action, and the closure of Elbit Systems.
Who Are the Four Hunger Strikers?
Heba Muraisi, Kamran Ahmed, Teuta Hoxha, and Lewie Chiaramello, aged between 20 and 31, are continuing this form of protest. Heba Muraisi, 31 years old, is held in HMP New Hall in Wakefield and has stated that she is focused on denouncing the injustice of British laws.
Kamran Ahmed, 28, is incarcerated in HMP Pentonville and has been hospitalized multiple times due to the hunger strike, having lost significant weight. Teuta Hoxha, 29, continues her strike in HMP Peterborough and has mentioned facing serious health issues.
Lewie Chiaramello, the youngest among them, has type 1 diabetes and is being held in HMP Bristol. He is also facing accusations related to entering a restricted area.
Their hunger strike has highlighted human rights issues and the treatment of political prisoners in the United Kingdom.
