Democratic politician Zohran Mamdani has been sworn in as the first Muslim mayor of New York City. The ceremony took place at midnight under the supervision of New York Attorney General Letitia James, as the city welcomed the new year. Mamdani's wife, artist Rama Duwaji, held a Quran on which Mamdani took his oath of office.
