Unfounded Accusations from the Kremlin

Kaja Kallas, a senior diplomat of the European Union, accused the Kremlin of attempting to sabotage the peace process by making unfounded allegations regarding a Ukrainian attack on Russian government websites. Her comments on social media refer to the Kremlin's claim that Ukraine allegedly attempted a drone attack on one of Vladimir Putin's residences.

"No one should accept baseless accusations from the aggressor that has ruthlessly targeted infrastructure and civilians in Ukraine," Kallas stated. Previously, Moscow accused Ukraine of targeting Putin's private home, situated on Lake Valdai in Northwestern Russia, claiming it would reconsider its position in ongoing peace negotiations as a result.

Initially, the Kremlin asserted that it made no sense to provide evidence of the alleged attack, but the Russian military released a map and a video they asserted demonstrated the attack. However, the BBC has been unable to verify this information.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky vehemently denied the allegations, linking them to the U.S.-led negotiation process for a ceasefire. He also warned that this situation could be used as a justification for attacks on Kyiv and Ukrainian government buildings. Despite the intense attacks on Odesa, where several people were injured, Zelensky emphasized that the Ukrainian people desire peace and that negotiations should continue swiftly, involving both American and European officials.
