Confusion and Delays on Eurostar

Eurostar passengers are bracing for a second day of disruptions after a power outage in the Channel Tunnel caused chaos for thousands. A man who boarded the 19:01 train to Paris reported to the BBC that, as of 02:30 GMT, he was still on the train at the entrance to the tunnel. He stated that staff informed them there was a “50% chance of reaching Paris, 50% of returning to London.”

The power supply issue and a defective LeShuttle train have blocked all routes, creating turmoil for many travelers attempting to depart for New Year’s. Some Eurostar and LeShuttle services resumed on Tuesday evening after one of the tunnel's two lines reopened, but delays persisted.

Getlink, the operator of the Channel Tunnel, announced that repair work continues overnight to resolve the power issue. The company hopes services will return to normal later tonight. "Please rearrange your journey for another day, if possible, with free exchanges available," Eurostar added.

By midday, at least a dozen Eurostar services between the UK, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands had been canceled. The railway operator apologized and noted that passengers could reschedule their plans at no extra cost or cancel their bookings for a refund or e-voucher.

Some passengers expressed concern and sought alternatives to reach their desired destinations. Two American tourists spent hundreds of pounds trying to get to Paris after their Eurostar service was canceled. “There was a lot of waiting. We've been here for five hours,” said one of them.

A family from Mexico found themselves in the same predicament, attempting to reach Paris for New Year’s, only to see their plans ruined by the cancellation. “No one is traveling today... there’s no hope for tomorrow,” said Monserrat Hernandes, a family member.
