Nigeria Dominates Against Uganda

Nigeria triumphed over Uganda with a score of 3-1, advancing to the knockout stage of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a perfect record. The match took place on December 30, 2025, and showcased a strong performance from the Nigerian team, who topped Group C with nine points.

Raphael Onyedika scored twice, while Paul Onuachu marked his return to international play with a goal after a four-year hiatus. Despite resting several key players, Nigeria managed to control the game effectively, taking the lead in the 28th minute. Onuachu capitalized on a perfect assist from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru to open the scoring, marking his first goal for Nigeria since 2021.

In the 56th minute, Uganda faced a numerical disadvantage when goalkeeper Magoola received a red card for a foul outside the penalty area. Although he was a substitute for Denis Onyango, Magoola was called to action and became the unfortunate subject of this decision. Nigeria took full advantage of the situation, adding two more goals, both scored by Onyedika, showcasing the superior quality of the team.

Uganda managed to net a consolation goal, but it did not alter the outcome of the match. Considering Nigeria was the runner-up in the previous edition of the tournament, they continue to impress in this year's competition.

In other news, Tanzania reached the knockout stage for the first time in 45 years after securing a draw against Tunisia, advancing as one of the four best third-placed teams.
