Diplomacy Regarding the Russia-Ukraine War Advances

United States President Donald Trump announced that discussions for a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine are in the "final stages" during a meeting with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy at his Florida residence. Both leaders made statements to the press on Sunday, preparing to discuss a new plan to end the bloody conflict.

Negotiation Progress and Challenges Faced

Trump emphasized that he is working intensively to conclude the war that has lasted nearly four years and expressed irritation towards both Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin, acknowledging the difficulties in halting the fighting. "I believe we are in the final stages of discussions, and we will see. Otherwise, it will continue for a long time, and millions more will be killed," Trump stated, adding that he does not have a deadline for this process.

Concerns and Negotiation Conditions

Zelenskyy, standing next to Trump, explained that they will discuss territorial concessions, which have been a red line for Ukraine. "My negotiators and Trump's advisors have discussed how to move forward step by step and bring peace closer," he said. Recently, the United States agreed to provide certain security guarantees for Ukraine, similar to those offered to other NATO members.

Mixed Views on the Discussions

While Trump maintains an optimistic attitude, various voices from Europe express skepticism regarding Putin's intentions, particularly following massive bombings of the Ukrainian capital ahead of the meeting. People in Ukraine are expressing distrust towards the peace process, recalling past experiences during negotiation attempts from 2015 to 2017.

Acceptance Conditions and Proposals

Zelenskyy stated last week that he is willing to withdraw troops from eastern Ukraine if Russia pulls back its forces and the area becomes a demilitarized zone monitored by international forces. At the same time, Russia has demanded recognition of the occupied territories, including Crimea, as Russian territory, demands that Kyiv has publicly rejected.
