Authorities in India have arrested a man in connection with a deadly car bomb attack that killed eight people and injured 20 others last week in Delhi.

The explosion occurred near a metro station close to the historic Red Fort, one of the city’s most iconic landmarks, sending shockwaves across the nation.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) confirmed that the car used in the attack was registered to the arrested suspect, who allegedly conspired with the suspected suicide bomber.

The suspect hails from Indian-administered Kashmir.

Another vehicle, believed to belong to the suicide attacker, has been seized for further examination.

So far, 73 witnesses, including those injured in the blast, have been interrogated.

This marks the first major car-bomb attack in Delhi since 2011.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the incident as a “conspiracy” and vowed to bring the perpetrators, their collaborators, and sponsors to justice.

Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi called the attack “extremely heartbreaking.”

Police are investigating potential links with recent arrests in Kashmir and the seizure of 2,900 kilograms of explosives in a Delhi suburb.

The Red Fort, a 17th-century Mughal fortress visited daily by thousands of tourists, continues to be a symbol of national heritage and is used as a backdrop for annual Independence Day speeches.

The blast has raised serious concerns about security in densely visited urban areas.
