A futuristic concept is moving closer to reality in the United States, where a consortium of aerospace firms and urban-mobility startups has unveiled the world’s first “flying bus” designed for public transit. The 20-seat eVTOL aircraft promises to reduce traffic congestion by up to 40% in major cities and revolutionize the daily commute.

Initial tests took place in Arizona, where the electric aircraft completed multiple low-altitude demonstration flights. With near-silent operation and zero emissions, the flying bus is being hailed as a sustainable alternative to traditional urban transport. Even more compelling is its low operating cost compared with helicopters, making it feasible for everyday public use.

The project has received the backing of the U.S. Department of Transportation, which announced that the first experimental routes could launch as early as 2027 in Los Angeles and Houston. Experts believe that if the rollout succeeds, similar air-transit systems will become the new normal in major metropolitan hubs.

“This marks the beginning of a new era in urban mobility,” said project lead Sarah Mendel. “The skies above our cities will soon become highways of intelligent movement.”
