Canadians continue to keep their distance from the United States, with travel numbers showing a steady decline. Kristy Gammon, who used to travel every other year to Baltimore for her husband’s Orioles games and ski trips to Lake Placid, now avoids even passing through the U.S. on her way to Ontario, reflecting a broader trend of protest against the Trump administration’s policies and tariffs.

October marked the tenth consecutive month of declining Canadian travel to the U.S., with air travel down nearly 24% and car travel over 30% compared to last year. Overall, U.S. international spending has dropped 3.2%, largely due to fewer Canadian visitors.

Meanwhile, Canada’s domestic tourism sector is booming. From May to August 2025, the industry generated a record C$59 billion, mainly driven by Canadians choosing to travel within their own country. Even snowbirds, retirees who usually winter in warmer U.S. states like Florida, are staying home more, reducing trips to the U.S. by 66% compared to last year.
