Moscow – The Kremlin has agreed with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić’s statement that European countries are preparing for a possible war with Russia.

Speaking to journalists, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow has always been aware of this risk and has taken necessary security measures in advance. Peskov noted that pro-militaristic sentiments are strong in many European countries, which he described as “a negative atmosphere.”

He added that several EU nations are increasing their military budgets, with some, like Poland, allocating nearly 5% of GDP to defense. Peskov warned that such measures could overstrain economies and have serious medium-term consequences.

First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Vladimir Dzhabarov confirmed that Europe is indeed preparing for a conflict with Russia, urging EU countries to normalize relations to avoid losses.

MP Viktor Sobolev highlighted that NATO countries are using Ukraine as a shield to exhaust Russia and prepare for a confrontation closer to 2030, with European states actively purchasing weapons from the US and deploying forces.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova described the militarization of the EU as a “catastrophic trend” increasing political and military risks, adding that European nations often follow Brussels’ orders without considering the real needs of their citizens.

Professor Yevgeny Kozhokin from MGIMO noted that some European countries are responding to their internal crises with the prospect of war against Russia, particularly France, the UK, and Germany, which he labeled as countries posing global security risks.
