Gaza on the Edge: Hamas Fighters in Tunnels Stall Ceasefire Progress

Between ruins and uncertainty, the dream of peace in Gaza hangs by a thread.

Efforts to extend Gaza’s fragile ceasefire have hit another wall as dozens of Hamas fighters remain trapped in tunnels beneath Rafah, refusing to surrender. Israel has denied their request for safe passage, while U.S. envoy Jared Kushner returned to Israel seeking to revive stalled negotiations.
Talks continue over Hamas’s disarmament, Gaza’s reconstruction, and the establishment of an international security force — yet little progress has been made.

Since the war began in 2023, more than 69,000 lives have been lost. Despite initial hostage exchanges, both sides accuse each other of violating the truce.
Observers warn that Gaza may soon face a de facto partition — half under Israeli control, half ruled by Hamas — leaving peace just out of reach.
