Abdu-Rabbu Ahmed, a lab technician at the Saudi Hospital in el-Fasher, has lost his colleagues and much of his family after paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) took control of the city in late October.

Speaking from a displaced persons camp in Tawila, Ahmed described fleeing under drone strikes and heavy artillery, while civilians and soldiers were killed on the streets. At least 460 patients and companions were reportedly killed, and six medical workers abducted.

The World Health Organization condemned the killings, while the RSF claimed footage showing volunteers caring for patients disproves the allegations.

Survivors include children who lost their parents, and young men who were detained, beaten, or used as human shields. Ahmed says he has no hope of returning to el-Fasher:

“Even if there was a small hope, I remember what happened right in front of me.”
